The Crinan Canal was completed in 1801, & partly engineered by Thomas Telford. It’s 14 km long, & provides a navigable route between the Clyde & the Inner Hebrides without the need for a long diversion around the Kintyre Peninsula. The canal became a tourist attraction after Queen Victoria visited in 1847.  Crinan Canal.
