Worldwide aerial & ground filmmaking, photography & video production

Inveraray Castle, Argyll

As a Drone Pilot, Photographer, Videographer and Chartered Surveyor, I’m able to assist clients with many types of work. No job is too large or too small: whether filming the installation of Europe’s largest gas tank at Grangemouth oil refinery, a TV drama series like ‘The Loch’ for ITV, a commercial for Johnnie Walker or Mazda, motorsports for Honda, Guinness Brewery’s health & safety video, or a documentary for National Geographic & Rolls-Royce, my 0-20kg drone qualification allows me complete flexibility to use the best aircraft for the job.

Talking of aircraft, I fly a range of drones:

I have a DJI S1000 which carries a Canon 5Ds/5D Mk iv, Panasonic GH4/5 or GoPro Omni 360° camera – my favourite drone to fly, but largely superseded these days by its younger & lighter siblings.

My main workhorse aircraft is the DJI Inspire 2. I own three of these, so I always have backup aircraft with me on shoots – two of my Inspire 2s carry X5S cameras & one carries DJI’s new Super 35 X7 camera. All three aircraft have CinemaDNG & ProRes licences, CrystalSky monitors, & I use Samsung T3 SSDs for fast backups & to save waiting around at the end of filming days.

I also travel with DJI Mavic 2 Pros, which are useful for indoor work & difficult flying locations, such as between the trees in forests.

Ancillary equipment which is always with me includes an Atomos Shogun monitor for DoPs, wireless headsets for always-on comms between DoP & drone crew, Ofcom-licensed two-way radios, & even a satellite phone – I make sure that comms are never an issue, no matter how remote the filming locations.

£5m public liability insurance (£10m is available where required).

I’m a 1st Option Safety Group approved supplier, I have BOSIET & MIST qualifications for worldwide offshore work, I’m a Professionally Qualified Person CSCS card holder, & an SQA qualified first-aider. I’m also FAA ‘Part 107’ qualified for commercial drone work in the USA.

Please ask for my detailed aerial CV covering all client work since 2014.

Aerial filming and photography

My 28 years spent travelling the world as an accredited Getty Images photographer will stand you in good stead when you commission me – please browse through the Portfolio section, & bear in mind that Paul Mellon & I offer a full filming service covering both aerial & ground, outdoors & indoors.

Inspections and surveys

I love inspection & survey work, and as a Chartered Surveyor I’m no stranger to working with plans or complex site visits. Aerial work in this category includes commercial & domestic inspections of buildings and structures, including condition surveys, environmental monitoring surveys, rooftop and insurance surveys; low-level aerial archaeological surveys; wind turbine blade inspections; construction site surveys including time-lapse filming; quarry surveys. The possibilities are almost endless!
